Why Ongoing Search Engine Optimisation Maintenance Plans
We often hear the statement, “Can you SEO our site so that we get high rankings on the search engines?” and the answer often is yes…but!
Why but?
Well it can be relatively easy to lift a site up the rankings in a short period for a range of keywords but the real difficulty is in keeping it there. A 5 page website is going to have a harder time staying up there when compared to a 1000 page website where all the pages talk about the main keyword and have related content.
Our experience is that you need to keep building, if not adding pages to your site, building links back from articles, directories, social bookmarking and other sources of backlinks such as videos, press releases online, news, blogging and newsgroups.
We have a policy of ongoing link building to help build strength in your rankings. The search engines do see links back to your site as one indicator that you are seen as a leader in your field. Our testing has shown that along with adjustments to your pages, this is one of the most important parts of the search engine optimisation process.
Links to your site don’t appear overnight in Google or Yahoo either. Even after the link is built, you have to wait for the search engines to go an index the site it is on and that could take weeks. Even though we only link from PageRank 2 – 7 sites, we have no way of telling how fast the links will become visible on the search engines. Statistics show us that it is a logarithmic jump:
Month 1 – Submitted 300 links – See 2 links
Month 2 – Submitted 300 links – See 39 links
Month 3 – Submitted 300 links – See 102 links
Obviously, over time we expect to see all of the links built show up but that depends on how active the search engines are.
So, in the end, the cumulative effect of the adjustment of pages, link building, etc gives you an advantage that most sites don’t have and that is being able to adjust to the search engines requirements and be found everywhere so you don’t just rely on the search engines for your traffic.
